LAFA 2021 Season Update

LAFA 2021 Season Update

Due to declining participation in football and, with the cancellation of last years season due to COVID, the LAFA Board has had come to a difficult decision to no longer remain an exclusive “in-house” league. To ensure our players can play football this season, LAFA has agreed to join a newly formed league, The Independent Youth Football League (IYFL). LAFA will be representing the West Chester area. The league will consist of at least 12 teams throughout the tri-county area. While the landscape of our league is changing, we remain committed to upholding our core values established by Mr. Kelly and demonstrated over the last 60+ years. More details to come over the next several days but here are some key details around the change below:

What will change?

  • Home Field – Kelly Field will remain our home field for all our games. Some games will be played and other fields as away games. Home and away games should be roughly a 50/50 blend. More details to come as scheduling is worked out.

  • LAFA Core Values – Develop, Grow and Compete
    • A community-based league founded by Mr. Kelly focused on the safe development of our youth through the game of football
    • Player development and safety is our #1 priority
    • Our coaches are certified through USA Football and complete all necessary PA background screening

Path Forward

The LAFA Board understands this is a significant change to the direction of our league. However, we believe this will enable LAFA to continue to provide West Chester youth an opportunity to learn and play the game of football as we have the last 60+ years, with a focus on player development, safety and competitiveness. LAFA will still offer Cheerleading and squads will be aligned with the newly formed tackle teams. The flag program will remain the same as in previous years, an inhouse league.

The LAFA Board will be setting up a zoom call to review additional details and answer any questions you as parents might have. In the meantime, please feel free to email any questions you might have to lafawc@gmail.com
