2021 LAFA Pre-season Update – U11 and U9

Our apologies for the delayed information. Our situation has been very fluid over the last few weeks trying to finalize the details and logistics around the new league. If you haven’t heard, please click here to review the changes at LAFA for the 2021 season. If you are receiving this information, you have been assigned to either the U11 or U9 division.

As we move forward, our focus as a league will be to make this experience for our athletes safe, fun and memorable. Our focus will be on the kids. While we may not have every detail completely ironed out with this new approach, please know that the LAFA Board, coaches and volunteers are doing our very best to make this maiden journey as smooth as possible. Here are some quick details about the upcoming weeks and what you can expect in pre-season.

Once practice starts, we will do our best to have the equipment at Kelly Field.
  • LAFA will provide shoulder pads, integrated padded pants and all game and practice jerseys. Each player is responsible for a helmet (preferably white) and mouthpiece. v  In an effort to remain true to the LAFA tradition of 2 practices/wk we are only requiring T/Th practices. Any optional practices are just that and can be decided upon by the family based on their players interest and schedule.

v  The first 2 weeks of pre-season will be used for teaching and evaluations. Players will remain in their age group and be progressively assigned to either the Varsity or Junior Varsity squads leading into the 3rd week. The 3rd and final week of preseason will be focused on preparation for upcoming games. The same “system” will be utilized by both teams within that age group making it easy to transfer back and forth based on the HC/Division Lead and the player/player family involved.

v  Definition of level within and age group:

o   Varsity – competitive focus aligned with the other organization’s top teams within the league

o   Junior Varsity – primary focus on instruction with alignment to the other organizations less competitive teams

o   If a player or family has a preference on way or another going into the season, please feel free to notify the league and/or your age division coaches.

In-season Practice Schedule

  • Typical Practice Week In-season – focus will be more on instruction and preparation for the upcoming week’s opponent with your assigned team. Gear will be full pads unless otherwise notified.

o   Tuesday (required) @ Kelly Field from 6-8pm

o   Wednesday (optional) @ Kelly Field from 6-8pm

o   Thursday (required) @ Kelly Field from 6-8pm

o   Friday/Saturday – games per final schedule

2021 Game Schedule

  • A final game scheduled is to be published by the league of 8/10. Once provided by the IYFL, we will utilize the TeamSnap platform for all scheduling and team assignments.

We certainly understand there may be many questions. We are working on providing all the information as it becomes available either via email, our website, TeamSnap and directly from your coach. In the meantime, please email us at lafawc@gmail.com with any outstanding questions or issues.

So….. I registered my son to play. I was advised I would hear from someone via email. That never happened. I understand things are hectic, but I’m now trying to play catch up.
Should I just bring my son to Kelly field? Does he need equipment first?
I would truly appreciate a call from someone. 610 656 9635. Thank you, Dave
